Adorn yourself with the ethnic modernity of lac bangles. Evergreen with all ages, these are made to suit all attires and occasions. The touch of tradition and spark of modernity, along with richness and class make these just the thing for you! Size: 2.4 cm diameter Art: The ancient art of making lacquer or lac bangles originated in Rajasthan centuries ago. Since its inception, this art has travelled to different parts of India and is currently practised in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Bihar, Orissa, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and the city of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. In the states of Bihar, Orissa, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh the traditional artisan community is known by the name of lakhera or laheri. The crafts persons are required to have high levels of skill and precision and the process calls for hard work. The process of making these lac bangles differs from place to place. Commonly, though, the lac is heated and moulded into the shape of the bangle first, following which it maybe embellished with sequins, semi-precious stones and gold dust. They may also be left plain or be enhanced with leheriya designs. Lac bangles, like glass bangles, are known to be brittle in nature and thus, must be handled with care. Traditionally for married women, these are now worn by women worldwide. Lac bangles have moved from being only a symbol of marriage to an article of elegance and sophistication, inspired by tradition. Region: Rajasthan, meaning Land of the kings, lies in the upper west region of India and covers most of the Thar Desert. Despite the inhospitable desert conditions, this state has been rich in culture and tradition, and remains so even today. Rajasthan exhibits immense versatility in being archaeologically important, having a gallant royal history, inimitable music, art and dances, and incredible architecture, other than the varied and rich folk culture. Social Impact: At Craftsvilla we are dedicated to supporting the artisans, who have preserved our rich and diverse heritage and culture and are now finding it difficult to sustain it. We support them by providing them employment and bringing to the world their priceless art in the form of our products. Often we have been able to revive a form of art dying out, due to lack of funds and provide a source of income to countless families. Taking this one step further we have also established a Craftsvilla fund in support of these artisans.
