There’s nothing worse than getting all glammed up in your favourite ethnic outfit only to have a couple of unsightly pimples ruin your look. Before trying the scores of chemical-laden creams and lotions your drugstore has to offer, experiment with these all-natural home remedies.
P.S. Don’t forget to do a patch test first to test for any adverse reaction!
1. Cinnamon and Honey Goodness
Let’s start with basics. All you need for this face mask is two ingredients easily available in every Indian kitchen. Cinnamon is known for being antimicrobial and antioxidant in nature, which roughly translates to ‘feisty fighter for bacteria-laden pimples’. The sweet and sticky honey kicks in to wipe off the acne scars.
Take a teaspoon of cinnamon powder, blend with 2 teaspoons of honey and leave the mixture on your face for around 15 minutes before washing off.
2. Cucumber Coolness
The cucumber probably gets its coolness factor from its ability to help acne-scarred skin. It also has a high water content which prevents dehydration of the skin. Blend small pieces of cucumber to make a paste, add 3 teaspoons of dahi and mix well. Apply the pack and keep it on for half an hour before washing off.
3. It’s an Eggy Situation
Who knew this breakfast staple would come to the rescue? All you need is three egg whites whisked thoroughly. Spread evenly on your face and leave it on for three minutes. Re-apply and leave for another five to six minutes before you rinse.
4. Got Milk?
Coconut is definitely the new super-food with almost every food expert swearing by its healing powers. Club coconut milk with the Indian super-spice, turmeric and you’ve got your very own acne fighting squad. Use around two to three tablespoons of coconut milk, add half a teaspoon of turmeric and leave it on for about eight minutes. Bonus: the combination also enhances your natural glow!
5. Bountiful Besan
Your mother, aunty and neighbours have probably already filled you in on the benefits of this magical ingredient called besan (also known as gram flour), and we’d be lying if we said that this flour doesn’t have some sort of magical power when it comes to acne. Mix two tablespoons of besan with a tablespoon of warm honey and apply. Wash it off once the pack dries.
